Toy Poodle nutrition is one of the first things a new pet owner should educate themselves on, even before they adopt one of these lively and intelligent dogs.
Like any other dog, the Toy Poodle needs the right nutrients in order to thrive. Feeding your dog the proper food will allow his immune system to become strong and will also help him have a beautiful coat, shiny bright eyes and a fun loving personality.
Toy Poodle Nutrition
One thing you need to be careful about with pet nutrition is that many commercial foods do not have the adequate amount of nutrients necessary to keep your pet healthy. Just one look at the ingredients on many of the dog food products in the grocery store will reveal the junk that is in them.
The “by-products” listed on your favorite dog food will likely leave your dog vulnerable to a host of illness and diseases. These by-products can be anything from feathers to fecal matter to hooves to meat deemed unfit for human consumption. Also included in these foods may be fillers like hair and even newspaper.
So, just what food should you feed your pet to insure he gets the proper Toy Poodle nutrition?
There are some commercial foods that are more nutritious for your pet. Foods like Innova, Life’s Abundance and Old Mother Hubbard include quality ingredients with no fillers and would be a good choice. You will find the good quality foods are more expensive but your pet will actually eat less food and you will save on Vet bills down the road as your pet will have less illness later in life.
What you want to look for in a commercial food is that the first two ingredients listed are some sort of meat. You also want to make sure there are no artificial preservatives, by-products or fillers. If there is something listed in the ingredients that doesn’t sound like a food you have heard of, it’s probably not the best thing to be feeding your Poodle.
If you really want the best nutrition for your pet Poodle, you want to feed him foods that you would eat yourself. Yes, that’s right, you should feed your pet things like turkey, chicken, potatoes, brown rice, apples, eggs, carrots and even cottage cheese. Some people advocate a raw diet where you feed your dog raw meats, but I think that today’s meats are probably loaded with parasites and bacteria so you might want to cook it to the same standards as you would your own.
Providing your pet with the best Toy Poodle nutrition will help keep his immune system, heart, skin, hear, lungs, eyes and everything else in tip top shape. Feed your dog as good a quality food as you would any member of your family, after all he is your best friend!
